The pendulum is one of the fundamental and most reliable mechanisms for measuring time. The operating principle of this model is based on oscillation with a constant amplitude under the influence of gravity (weight) and the potential energy (tension) of the rubber band. The rubber band drives the mechanism of the model and compensates for the loss of kinetic energy from the pendulum's oscillations.
The mechanism is set in motion using a gearbox with a winding wheel. The model is equipped with an anchor brake that controls the oscillation frequency, a weight, a braking wheel, a gear, a rubber band, as well as locking hooks and a locking pawl. The latter reduce functional errors.
The model has various means to control the oscillation frequency: the weight of the pendulum body, the vertical position of the weight on the pendulum, and the tension of the rubber band. The models in this series are age-appropriate and do not require much time for assembly - they are intended more as a teaching tool than a puzzle. As with the other Ugears collections, assembling the Stem-Lab model is synonymous with fun and understanding: everything you need to assemble, learn, and discover is included in the box.
